Hi Sandor,
Great then, I just sent a calendar invite for Wed 14-15 CET (which seems to be same as Irish time, and one hour earlier than Budapest time).
Is our Skype bridge OK for you?
Thanks,
Cristian

Hi Cristian,
We can also meet this week. I'm available 14-15 or 15-16 CET on Wednesday, or 9-10 or 10-11 CET on Thursday. Meeting on Wednesday has the benefit that Mate and other guys from the compiler developer team can also join us.
Looking forward to receiving your reply.
Best,
Sandor

Thanks, Sandor. We should definitely meet next week once Gergely is back, just wondering if we could meet this week to ask a few basic question on how the ELTE P4 compiler works? This should not be news to Gergely, and it would be good to burn it out this week. Is this OK with you?
Regards,
Cristian

Hi Cristian,
Unfortunately, Gergely is out of office this week and he will be back on next Monday. However, Mate and I are available for a short skype call even this week.

Sandor

Hi Sandor, Mate, Gergely,
A collaboration around P4 is still very interesting for us from the perspective of building on optimized SW switch back-end that is programmable through P4 front-end, and we have a few ideas on how we could collaborate.
Are you guys available for a discussion next week?
Regards,
Cristian

Dear Cristian,
sorry for the delay, but it was difficult to see what we can do, since the rules in EIT changes year by year. According to the information I got, it is not possible to include Intel with allocated budget into the EIT. The only option if Intel joins EIT Digital again. Subgranting (I think this is the option for 3rd parties) can only be used to support SMEs and start-ups, so currently we cannot use this way of funding. From other perspective EIT requires us to include a sustainability plan (basically we have to specify how to share the profit of the project with EIT Digital and they require exact numbers) that posses many challenges to address. If you have any better news, please do not hesitate to share with us. Of course, we will share the proposal text with you and we can keep you informed about it's status. We can also say that Intel supports the project, but tasks can only be assigned to partners getting EIT funding.
Besides EIT there may be other - more research oriented - opportunities in the future where we can launch a joint project. Anyway, we continue the work on our P4 compiler and try to be active in P4 community. Since one of the platform we focus on is Intel x86, we would be very happy to collaborate with you - of course if you are also interested in P4 and our research. FPGA-based direction seems also a very interesting direction and I can also try to hire a new PhD student with a related research topic.
Keep in touch!
Best,
Sandor

Hi guys,
The May deadline for project submission is fast approaching. Given that Intel is not member of EIT digital, is a joint submission still possible?

Cristian

Hi Sandor,
Yes, we have checked internally with Dermot and we can also confirm our understanding matches yours: Intel in currently not a member of EIT Digital, therefore not able to submit projects, not eligible for funding, but might participate to an EIT Digital as 3rd party.
We need to meet and explore the options for going further with/without EIT project.

Cristian

Hi Cristian,
Sorry for the delay, but I was traveling these days. Have you managed to get information about the standpoint of Intel about EIT Digital from Dermot Honan?
Here you can find his contact information: +353 1 6067271, dermot.e.honan at intel.com<mailto:dermot.e.honan at intel.com>
Meanwhile, I was asking the London node about the participation of Intel in this program, and I have just got a more clear answer from the director of the London node. Accordingly, Intel left EIT Digital some times ago and thus it is not eligible for EIT funding in EIT Digital projects anymore. It makes the collaboration within EIT more complicated. Since we are still in time, I also asked the office of Budapest node about the possibilities to involve you (e.g. as a third party), but it would be good if you can also ask e.g. Dermot about it in parallel.
According to these bad news, it may happen that we cannot make this project in EIT Digital together, but we can also consider other possibilities to collaborate if you are interested in P4 and related things.
I will also answer your questions below, but first I would like to clearly see how we can move forward in the administrative jungle of EIT.
Thank you in advance!
Best,
Sandor

Hi Sandor,
As we are working internally to better understand the EIT opportunity, define the potential project tasks, get resources, etc we came up with some questions, can you please help us to clarify them?
1. Project scope: What is the level of detail that we have to use to describe the project scope as part of the project submission?
a. Is high level specification of project scope enough to get the submission accepted, or should be define the project scope in great detail?
b. Is there flexibility to add changes to the project scope after the project submission? Can we alter the project course based on our findings during the implementation phase or based on business priorities at the time?
2. Deliverables: Do we need to commit on specific list of project deliverables?
a. What is the level of detail to specify deliverables?
b. Any flexibility in post-submission updates based on technical findings or business priorities?
3. Project resources: do we need to commit project resources upfront?
a. Which resources have to be committed upfront? Resources for consideration: developers, computers, other equipment, etc.
4. Deliverable ownership: Who owns the project deliverables, is it EIT or the project partners?
a. Are the project partners allowed to retain the ownership of the SW?
b. Is open source SW allowed as opposed to EIT proprietary?
5. Funding from EU: Is EIT providing funding for the project?
a. What is the order of magnitude?
b. How it this shared between partners?
6. Do you have some examples of successful project submissions that we can take a look at?
Thanks for your help!
Regards,
Cristian
